Harvest Notes for August 23rd – Tomato News

The Harvest Notes are up, and it appears as though we’re almost at the end of tomatoes.  Read why.  It’s part of the handoff of being an organic farm and not using GMO and pesticides.

The farmers think that this week’s share is likely to contain basil, eggplant, garlic, peppers, squash, tomatoes, and watermelons and/or cantaloupe, with a small chance of tomatillos.

Remember that our annual picnic is on Sunday, August 26th!  Are you planning to make baba ghannouj with the eggplant, or a chopped salad featuring peppers, tomatoes, and basil?  What other creative dishes will you bring that feature items from this week’s share?  The picnic is bring-your-own-meal, however people always share recipes for the items they bring.  Don’t forget that family and friends are welcome – and if the weather is against us, we do have a rain date.
