Harvest Notes for June 21st

The Harvest Notes for this week are posted, and see below for links to articles about and recipes for some of the items we received.

==============================================

The farmers have made their best guess as to what we will receive
on Thursday, although it could be different for each share size.  We are likely to see these items on Thursday:  Bok Choi, Carrots, Garlic Scapes, Kale, Kohlrabi, Lettuce Heads, Salad Turnips, and Salad Mix.

Remember that you can click on any of the highlighted names and find a page of recipes for that item.  So you can do the easy thing and make a salad with the lettuce, salad mix, kale, carrots, salad turnips, and kohlrabi – or learn new ways to eat them.  There are the very popular kale chips from last summer, and the kohlrabi and carrot slaw that can include salad turnips for a change.  Replace scallions in almost any recipe with the garlic scapes for a slightly different flavour.

Remember that on Thursday we update this post with a link to the Harvest Notes for the week.  Don’t forget to bring bags for weighing the salad mix and kale, and plenty of bags to carry home the veggies.  Also – if you liked the tastes the farmers gave us on Opening Day, there is still time to add a salty/sweet or dairy share.  Look at Sarah Chandler’s June 11th post on our Facebook page, or download the order form and mail it in ASAP.  You will pick up your first delivery on the Farmer’s Market day of June 28th, and then regularly on the third Thursday of each month.
